Brad received his first guitar at 8 years old and started his first band at 10. Fresh out

of High School at 18, Brad honed his craft in nightclubs around the SF Bay Area. “I played

five nights a week in a funk rock band after high school,” Gillis recalls. “Then I joined

Rubicon and recorded two records with Jack Blades back in the late Seventies. Then on March

18, 1978—the biggest day of my career—Rubicon performed at the Cal Jam 2 for 250,000 fans.

That was a great day for me. I was only 20 years old, and we shared the stage with Heart,

Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Santana, and others.”
